German Nionex GmbH and Italian e.Dexter S.P.A. sign pontegra VAR contract
Guetersloh/Ghiffa, 27 September 2004 – Effective immediately, the Italian iDTV
specialist e.Dexter S.P.A., with locations in Ghiffa, Milan, Padua and Rome, will begin
marketing pontegra in Italy. pontegra is an HTML-based platform for MHP* created
by the German technology provider Nionex GmbH, a 100 per cent subsidiary of
DirectGroup Bertelsmann.
e.Dexter has agreed to be a pontegra VAR and offer a pontegra-based MHP platform
as an application service provider (ASP) for small and medium-sized broadcasters
and third party content providers in Italy. Furthermore, e.Dexter will sell pontegra
licenses to broadcasters who plan to run MHP services on their own. With the
pontegra platform, the development of interactive TV (iTV) services is as easy as
programming HTML-Web pages. There is no need to invest in Java-based MHP
skills, proprietary content formats and workflow components. This advantage is
particularly attractive for small and medium sized broadcasters and providers.
The partnership with e.Dexter is strategically beneficial considering the fact that Italy
has a rapidly-growing MHP market at present. Due to the introduction of DTT and the
subsidization of MHP set top boxes by the Italian government, there are meanwhile
more than 500,000 MHP set top boxes in household use.
At the current SAT Expo in Vicenza from 10 September to 2 October 2004, pontegra
is being presented in hall F at booth I5 and hall F at booths D19-D20.
