Nionex GmbH Develops Content Management Solution for the Pschyrembel Series

Guetersloh, 17 October 2002 - The specialist for content management systems and portal solutions, Nionex, a division of the Wissen Media Group (arvato Bertelsmann AG), has set up a media neutral and publicatioan system for the "Pschyrembel Kliniches Wörterbuch", a classic German medical dictionary, published by Walter de Gruyter publishing house. The sophisticated content management solution developed by Nionex includes custom-made details along the entire line of service: from planning the workflow, digitalization of contens, integration of varous standard software products and the automated typedetting to succesful operation of the completed solution.

The introduction of this individualized editoral and publication system by Nionex based on the CMS and editoral software sigmalink from empolis has made it possible for De Gruyter publishing to optimize their entire editoral and production process. Now they are able to  economically update the Pschyrembel contents as often as needed and offer their customers indivdualized and currentcontent in the media from desired. Editoral time cost for typesetting is reduced to a minimum. The solustion setup wich was developed by Nionex allows the leading content supplier of scientific contents, among other things, to establish a media neutral XML substance pool of Pschyrembel contents all linked to one another, including texts, pictures, animation and metadata. It alsoprovides edotors with Web-based access to edit and maintain the contents. Moreover, simple and comfortable tools are made available to the editoral staff to accurately choose portions out of the substamce pool wich are desired for certain products or special customer wishes.

The Walter de Gruyter publishing house has made the decision for an application service provider operation (ASP), a leased content management solution. In ASP operation the number of software licenses can be scaled or individually adjusted to the needs of the company. The arrangement worked out by Nionex made it possible for the publishing company to do without purchasing or setting up their own IT infrastructure and to avoid specifying a set number of software licenses.

In addition to this pilot project there are plans to import other Walter de Gruyter publishing objects, such as legal commentaries, into the Nionex editorial an publication solution.
